Meet the Team

Dorota Pawlak

I am a graduate of the English Department at the University of Warsaw. My entire professional career revolves around providing business and legal translations. In 1995 I joined Baker & McKenzie, one of the biggest international law firms, as an in-house translator. I worked for Baker & McKenzie for twenty years. During that time I had an opportunity to gain a deep understanding of legal terminology and industry-related know-how.
Since 1995 I have translated hundreds of thousands of pages of all sorts of business and legal documents in all areas of law. My specialty is Polish-English translation with a special focus on court letters, legal opinions and business correspondence.
In 2015 Ania, Paweł (who are also featured on this website) and myself decided to launch an independent translation project called WellDone Translations. The idea of the project is to put into practice our years of legal translation experience underpinned by industry experience to deliver
accurate and timely translations to the most demanding customers, and I am pleased to note that –
judging by the volume of translation requests we receive – we are doing a great job.
I am customer-oriented and get the job done on time and within budget.

Anna Popow

As far as I can remember, I have always envisaged myself as a translator. I started freelancing as a student at the Instituted of Applied Linguistics of the University of Warsaw. My first significant assignment was in 1995 when I participated in the creation of a Special Report on Poland for BusinessWeek. When my journalistic adventure was over, I came back to my main focus of interest: legal translations. Having completed my Master thesis on Polish-English legal glossaries, I grabbed the opportunity of joining Baker & McKenzie law firm as one of their in-house translators in 1996. The following year, I qualified as a sworn translator of English.
Over 18 years with Baker & McKenzie gave me the privilege of being part of some of the biggest and front-page deals in Poland.
In 2015, I realized that it was high time to move on professionally. It was at that point that the WellDone Translations project surfaced. It originated as a common idea of Dorota, Paweł and myself: a group of colleagues, who have collaborated for years, respect each other and find
each other trustworthy both on the professional and personal level. Our joint experiences and ideas resulted in a translation co-operative far more flexible and corporate client-oriented than average translation agencies operating on the Polish market.
As a team, we translate all sorts of, mainly legal and commercial, documents. My particular area of expertise are English-to-Polish translations of corporate and IP documents, and agreements, and court files. I believe that a good translation, while being accurate on the level of content, must never slavishly copy the formal aspect of the original language.
I am also an active sworn translator providing certified translation services.
I am detail-oriented. Uncompromising as far as quality is concerned. I am meticulous and in my translations prefer relying on my brains than on translation software.

Paweł Mastalerz

I have more than twenty-five years of experience as a translator. I began translating in the mid-1990s. Right after graduating from the Łódź University English Studies Department, I joined one of the English-speaking media outlets in 1994. A couple of years later, I joined one of the big auditing firms and until 2000 I gained a very good understanding of accounting and finances.

In 2000, Baker & McKenzie offered me the position of an in-house translator, and I accepted it. I worked for them for more than 15 years.

Today, I specialise in translating all sorts of legal, financial, and business documents. My particular area of expertise is Polish-to-English translations of court documents and legal opinions. These types of documents give me the greatest challenge and an opportunity to put my many years of experience to good use. As a staunch advocate of Plain English, I strongly believe that while the complexities, nuances and often noncommittal nature of legal documents must always be precisely put across, this should never be done at the expense of the comprehensibility of the translated text.

In 2015, I teamed up with my long-term colleagues Anna Popow and Dorota Pawlak to establish WellDone Translations. This project takes up all my professional time now. Our goal at the outset was to morph into a boutique translation agency, which we are today.
I am strongly convinced that our combined pool of experience, knowledge and years of practice make up an attractive offer to clients who want an added-value, reliable, fast and trouble-free translation service.
